Hey guys, Dr. Jon Dandridge here from Beyond Bones. One of the things that we really try and make sure that all of our clients and patients understand is just the importance of the spine as it relates to our overall health and well being.
We want people to have a real high level of respect for that, because it’s so, so important, we’re just so connected, and our spine is truly at the center of it all. All the joints that we have in our body are either directly or indirectly affected by the health of the spine. The shoulder, for example, is a great example that we see all the time in our office. And what we see typically is that people who have shoulder problems, it can be caused by a number of things.
Number one, problems in the neck, right? If we have a lot of degeneration and issues in our neck, especially the lower neck, this can directly impact the shoulder. Why? Because all the nerves that leave this part of the neck, the nervous system, that leaves this area of our spine, goes to control our arm and all the functions that the arm has muscular, you know, neurological, so the sensation, the ability to since touch, and heat cold, all these types of things. If there’s degeneration or problems, dysfunction in our neck, it can very much affect our shoulder.
Posture is a big one, right? So if our spines are not moving, well, if they’re degenerated, if there’s a lot of problems globally, in our spine, this will affect our posture. So what we see often is that typically people are suffering from a more of a forward flex type of posture. And when this happens, all the angles of our the joint angles in our body, they start to change, right? We’re not upright and extended anymore, we become really flex forward, and our joint angles become the chain begin to change. And it’s only a matter of time, that with the stresses of life, whatever those may be for you that if those joints aren’t angled, right, if they’re not aligned properly, then they will start to experience problems, right, they may wear and tear a lot faster than they should degenerate a lot quicker than they should. And this can create pain among many other symptoms.
When we work with people, we want to always, always check the spine first because of its essential nature and its and its connection to really all the other joints of the body. The shoulder being one of those, if you have any questions, let us know we’d be all we’re always open to a conversation and happy to help!
