Each and every day we work with patients who have no fractures, no gross dislocations, no bone infection, no bone cancers, no serious disc herniations, etc… but they are feeling and functioning very poorly. Not all spinal conditions are severe such as those I’ve mentioned. In fact, most people suffer from small repetitive stress that occurs throughout life and accumulates in the body eventually breaking down the normal structure and function of our spine.
Spinal subluxation, or just subluxation, is the condition that occurs in the spine because of the consistent exposure to stressors creating dysfunction and eventually symptoms such as pain, reduced range of motion, stiffness, numbness, shooting pains, etc… Subluxation can be caused by many things but the simple answer is that subluxation is caused by the stresses of life. Those may be physical stressors, emotional or mental stressors, chemical stressors, etc… When our body loses the ability to adapt properly to these stressors something has to give.
We find that the area that takes the majority of the damage is the spine and we see this through poor spinal alignment and joint function. It is this loss of normal alignment and/or normal joint function that we call subluxation and although subluxation may start small, with time, the effects accumulate and can cause life altering symptoms and dysfunction. The detrimental effects of subluxation can present both local (in the spinal joints themselves) or global (other areas of the body) symptoms due to the intimate relationship the spine has with our nervous system.
Our Approach To Spinal Subluxation
Once we locate subluxation it is always our objective to correct these issues so the spine and nervous system can begin to function properly without stress, tension, or interference. We do this by adjusting the joints of the spine. We call this an “adjustment’ or an “alignment”. There are a number of benefits to an adjustment but one of the primary benefits is that an adjustment restores quality motion to the joints of the spine. This allows for the joint to move more freely (less “tightness” or “restriction”), experience less pain, and provide the necessary neurological stimulation to our brain.
Symptoms and Dysfunctions
- Local pain in the spinal and pelvic joints themselves

- Headaches and migraines
- Numbness and/or tingling in the extremities

- Feeling of having a “heavy” head
